Fixing stuff around yourself

To believe in leadership without authority, small investments can prove to be bigger ones. Sometimes, leading without authority gives you a feeling of satisfaction and inner peace.

While reading the activity, I was in my bedroom. So, obviously, my bedroom was the place where I chose to fix things around me. Meanwhile, right in front of me, when I read that we had to choose one thing to assemble, there was our study table, which was completely messed up with everything strewn about. I decided right away that this would be the area I would clean up and make presentable. Everything on the table was dusty and not in its proper place.

Before

Furthermore, everything became dusty today due to the open windows and storm. As a result, it had to be cleaned. Everything had to be cleaned before being put back in its proper place.

I pushed the shoppers out of the way and reorganised everything. Then I went over to clean the small mirror and photo frames that had been placed there. I changed the arrangement slightly to make it look more presentable.

The table looked so clean and presentable after it had been cleaned. A strong sense of fulfilment rushed through my mind. I was overjoyed and satisfied that it appeared to be so clean and that I had completed a minor task for my mother. I’m sure she’ll be pleased as well when she sees it.

After

Maybe I would have done it tomorrow if you hadn’t assigned it to me honestly. Or perhaps I should have skipped this step as well.

This activity demonstrates that being a leader does not imply becoming a manager and telling others what to do. Instead, everyday leadership and leadership without authority is about taking responsibility and a small initiative, and in some way contributing to a positive outcome. It may be insignificant, but it makes a difference.
